I don't believe they have forgotten per say. I believe this was the double edged sword of technology advancing. People are much less social and reliant on tech for communication. We don't just talk to strangers and meet new people in person, so our dialect is shrinking & people are less aware of their social skills. Pair that with the fact that most people spend an average of 1 second looking at a post before they scroll and yes, you have a lot of people mostly farming for engagement without actually contributing a voice. The way social interactions felt to me in the days of forums and boards, like nostr:npub1ye5ptcxfyyxl5vjvdjar2ua3f0hynkjzpx552mu5snj3qmx5pzjscpknpr mentioned, they were much more of a low time preference activity, the interactions felt more meaningful.

Maybe because it was still new and fascinating. Everyone wasnt on it but everyone I knew was.

It’s everywhere now (social online) no longer niche part of life. It all feels very high time preference, little regard for substance, mostly.

For me, #Nostr is giving me the same vibes as the forum and board days. Hope it stays this way, even as it scales. I think it will.
