I wonder what the startup costs and skill building time would be like... I wouldn't be surprised if there were people who would jump at the chance if they had the financial runway and a willing teacher.

I don't really know either but it's definitely a capital issue.
You need room to store the leather and operate. Then you gotta buy the actual leather in bulk directly from the tannery if you want to expect a profit then more capital to aquire the machine for splitting.
Great opportunity to orange pill tanneries tho.

We need this too. Just last year I was thinking how LeatherMint could maybe one day become a tannery. But yeah that's a completely different craft and capital intensive venture. It probably take years of trial and errors to find your own process for your own leather.
