N/S is optimal but this is more or less a model. View is from overhead.

This is part of a silvopasture design I can't seem to stop thinking about.

The BW trees produce Black Walnuts and high quality timber but also juglone which is toxic to other plants (by design).

The Black locust produce fodder and firewood but are immune to juglone and reduce its concentration. In the early life cycle of the system they provide shade and nitrogen to the Black Walnut trees as they establish. Later on they provide nitrogen to the Black Walnuts and the hedgerows.

The hedgerows fence out livestock and provide fodder/browse/harvestable human food.

On either side of the structure is animal pasture.

The whole thing provides extreme wind protection and afternoon shade on the east side of the structure.

I touched on maybe 25% of what's in my head concerning this detail of the model.

Need a beer now.
