Yesterday I had my first coding lesson :D sooโ€ฆ. I am currently working on a relay ๐Ÿคซ๐Ÿ’š I told my man I want to do it on my own, so I learn something new. He offered some time to help me and I had sooo many questions ๐Ÿ˜ oof so many shortcuts ๐Ÿ˜

After renting a server and selecting a

domain last week and successfully logging in, it seems like my cute 1GB on the server are not enough for using Nostream! ๐Ÿ‘€

What relay-software can I use as a bloody beginner, one that fits on my little server? I want to make it paid and for payment, using a website :) (like nostr.wine for example)

Or, also, and this question might be a little high for me but: how do I connect a website to my relay (with npub input and payment)

Any other tips for me? #asknostr ๐Ÿ’œ

Run strfry.

Accept payments as zaps maybe?

You probably cant compile strfry on the server if it has less ram. You can compile it on your desktop and send the product to server.

Yesterday I looked at strfry, but couldn't find any information about a paid option. Is there any?

No paid option. You could use write policy plugins to allow premium users to send more.

Wow, just wow! I can not contribute content, but it's great ๐Ÿซ‚

Running my own relay is on my mind for longer, and I wanted to see how easy it is for someone that doesnโ€™t really know how! ๐Ÿ‘€

I think without help it would be more difficult, but letโ€™s see what Iโ€™ll do now and how it goes ๐Ÿค— thank you! ๐Ÿซถ

I think u can't, that's not enough. I'm self hosting Nostream paid relay. It depands how many users u have. If u running free relay 1tb soon will not be enough.

I am not expecting too many people, especially at the beginning and I definitely want to make it paid :) what do you think would be enough?

How much space does your relay use at the moment?

nostr:npub1dxs2pygtfxsah77yuncsmu3ttqr274qr5g5zva3c7t5s3jtgy2xszsn4st can anwser some of these things

I think 1GB will be tight for any relay once you get any number of users on it but strfry (https://github.com/hoytech/strfry) is less resource intensive than nostream and is probably a good first step for learning before investing money in a bigger server.

I havenโ€™t looked into how to do paid relay with strfry though. It is fairly easy to do with nostream.

Yea 1GB (as RAM) is tight. But it should work with a small relay. Also it would be paid and storage is not a problem (because Franny has me :))

Thank you! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜Š

nostr-rs-relay is the simplest relay to build and run

Can confirm - it takes about 15 minutes to get nostr-rs-relay up and running: https://zechendorf.com//2023/08/10/spinning-up-your-own-nostr-relay.html

I'm using nostr-rs-relay as well for layer.systems

But the join website is ugly as hell :(

Thank you! Letโ€™s check that out๐Ÿค—

When I set mine up I copied and pasted the notes from RS relay in

to chat GPT and had it walked me through it step by step using command line. When I encountered errors I put those errors into chat GPT as well and it was able to get me through it.

Wow, that worked good? ๐Ÿ˜ Nice! Are you familiar with coding?

Not really! I could never pass C++ in college....I ended up getting a business degree. :)

Well done ๐Ÿ˜Š I never really understood it but I think itโ€™s really interesting and helpful to know! :))
