Watched Holy Mountain (1973), a surrealist film directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. A Christ like figure embarks on a spiritual quest. He’s guided by a mysterious alchemist. He assembles a group of people to climb the Holy mountain in order to seek enlightenment and replace the immortal gods. I don’t know about this one. Didn’t enjoy it that much. The story made no sense. It was visually beautiful and the music was good. But way out there. I did like the critique of consumerism and religion. But other than that it was trash. That whole scene with the woman with the Hebrew tattoos bathing the main character and then that glass bowl thing was absolute trash. 3/10 #nodereviews

Holy Mountain is the magnum opus.

I preferred Santa Sangre and el topo

Wow node You still watch black and whithe movies ? What did you think about . Blood in blood out ? 1993 👌

This one was in colour

Didn’t see that one

Any good?

1993 LA Latino gang flick. It’s great if you just want to do hood rat shit with your frens.

I’ll look it up. Thanks!

I like hood rat shit 😂

What did you make of the frogs?

It seemed like the Spanish conquest of the Aztec empire. Seems like live frogs and lizards were used which isn’t great at all

Lollll. Yeah but the Spaniard frog conquistadors scene is great

The whole movie is visually beautiful. That scene is cool.

El Topo next

If it’s weird, it’s good

Weird is always good 😂

Hey if you want something completely different from the Criterion Collection, there's this fascinating documentary from the 70's called "Grey Gardens". It's about a mother-daughter duo who have spiraled from 1930's American East Coast upper society to complete destitution by the 1970's, all against the backdrop of their decaying East Hampton mansion and the overgrown estate it sits within.

Sounds cool. I’ll add it to the list. Thanks! 🫡

Don't mistake this for the 2009 HBO production (with Barrymore and Lang). That's a drama based on the 70's documentary.

The one I found is from 1975 (criterion) 🫡

Great doc

I liked it

I don’t know about this one 😅

Fucked up and surreal. Just like I like 'em

I like fucked up and surreal. This was way out there. With the washing of the ass of the Christ like figure by the naked girl with the Hebrew tattoos. And then the one guy one glass bowl scene. Terrible 🤮

I don't remember these 😂 Maybe I need to rewatch it. But I don't get disturbed by thigs like that so maybe that's why. I recall him completing the team for the journey

I liked the ending where the camera zooms out to show that it's a movie (always_has_been.jpg) and then the character addresses us as viewers

I don’t know man. Maybe I’ll give it another chance one day. Maybe not. Didn’t like that one 🤷🏾‍♂️

Forget it. I wasn't trying to sell it or anything. There are plenty of movies out there 👍

BTW I checked all your reviews and I read the ones about the movies I've seen and it's solid stuff. I'm glad I started following you

(On that note it seems you liked "Infinity Pool" more than I did 😉)

On of Brandon’s movies yes. Following in the footsteps of his father. Have you seen his other movie, Possessor?
