Is it feasible to have one LN channel to a well-connected node, with transactions managed by the node and my phone/laptop as the 'frontend', whether on the same network or remote?

My setup:

- Umbrel #Bitcoin node on Pi 5 (8GB, 2TB M2 SSD)

- Installed CLN & Electrum Server (no channel yet)

- Using Phoenix wallet (like the single-channel concept)

- Want to take LN payouts from Ocean mining

- Considering 1 channel with Boltz but 0.01 BTC threshold is a bit concerning (not familiar with LN node backups)

Yes, this is what I have. Just one channel. I donโ€™t use Phoenix but make payments with Zeus connected to the node over Tailscale.

Is Zeus superior to Phoenix when running one's own node? Afterall Phoenix is kinda about having a (pretty) self custodial wallet without a node, right? Got it, will look into Tailscale, thanks

If you're not familiar with backups better use LND, while CLN is great it doesn't have automatic channel backups on umbrel and chances are high you loose your sats on a hardware defect without backup

start9 allows you to back up your CLN in the event of server death. Reminds me...should prolly do that ๐Ÿ˜„

But start9 does not support automatic backups and no remote backups afaik. You have to get active, umbrel does everything for you automatically (with led)

correct, i believe that type of backing up is on their road map (not just for lightning nodes but the OS and all services). Who knows when but if the user wants to use CLN in order to receive lightning payouts from Ocean mining (they can possible do so with phoenix but I have only personally used bolt12 via CLN to receive), they would at least have some ability to back up.

Also lnd supports Lightning node connect which fits your use case of controlling it with a remote app (Zeus) perfectly
