We have digital ID in Norway. Not long ago every Norwegian citizen was forced to physically show their identification to the banks to make sure their digital ID matches. If you didn’t comply they would freeze your assets and in long run terminate them!

This ID is linked to every official agency in Norway, making your citizenship a burden if you didn’t comply.

It was a EU regulation brought on to us. With the basis that this was to fight money laundering and illegal activities.

I resisted showed the bank these EU rules where breaking norwegian law and got my bank id renewed without the new biometric digital id. I was a little hassle and some escalation before they caved.

Well according to Norwegian law a biometrically linked national id card or passport is not mandatory. So they had to renew my bank id based on the old verification i did years ago.

Nice to know that it was possible. I can’t remember but I don’t think I had to provide any biometrics.
