Is it normal that 2 people need to pay more for the same hotel room than 1 person in Japan?

šŸ¤” seems odd if only 2 people. I’ve seen limits per room but never 1 person. Maybe business hotels…

What? Of course, the more people the more you pay. Isn't like that everywhere?

Really? A room is standard for two. Thats my experience with all hotels.

Maybe it’s not the hotel but the platform I’m booking on that’s ripping me off. Classic centralization.

That sucks. If it wasn’t clear when you booked, try to speak to customer support.

Haven’t booked yet

šŸ˜‚

also possibly data used to figure out if the person is cheating... big business hotel industry. no?

hoteliers are the dirties ppl out there.. just look at trump.

No, we should only pay for the room, not the people count. So strange to me. This hotel will charge me 20% more for 2 people.

So you rent a room and you can put 40 people in there?

No, a limit makes sense. But it’s strange for a 2 beds room charging more for 2 people

Put the other person in your suitcase and sneak them in.

Usually 2 is allowed for same rate but I imagine if it’s ā€œbusinessā€ hotel that targets a single business traveler, then perhaps that’s their policy. In any case, it should have (and I assume it was) made clear at the time of booking.

Yes, at least it’s clear so I asked before booking.

Well, assuming there is bigger cost for having 2 rather than 1, the fact that the price is standardized to always allow 2 in some places mean necessarily that people that go alone are basically paying for the price of 2.

Can’t imagine why it would cost that much more for 2. Unless breakfast is included but otherwise should be covered with any standard markup. Hotels get bulk deals on the rest of their stuff.

Maybe the centralized algorithm just discriminates me

Yes it is

thats european since the room prices are cheaper than in the us. different economy.
