This is very interesting. Not convinced that those are the final mechanisms, but likely are very related to hormonal conditions needed to become or to reverse diabetes.

This is an incredibly important message for people to hear, and making far too simple dietary conclusions is an epidemic in and of itself.

With that being said I would challenge that “total energy consumption” is regulated by a powerful feedback mechanism that can’t be ignored. Meaning, some can reduce their caloric intake to below their theoretical expenditure and you will see them gain fat, reduce their muscle mass and bone density, and exacerbate the problem you describe in your post.

I do believe you have to meet “individuals” where they are hormonally.

I'm sure it's simplified. Reality is too complex to describe. I don't know about the deeper mechanisms and hormonal conditions.

I am painfully aware of the "powerful feedback mechanism." I steadfastly stare it in the face and I'm gonna fucking win damn it 😆. I think weight bearing exercise is a practical necessity for some people to keep the weight off.
