Anyone have any suggestions on opening channels on lightning? Anyone want to join forces or is it easier to use a service or some other way? #asknostr nostr:nprofile1qqsx8zd7vjg70d5na8ek3m8g3lx3ghc8cp5d9sdm4epy0wd4aape6vspz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqzymhwden5te0v9kxwmeww468smewdahx25ymrr2

Easier to use a cloud service like Alby Hub. If you run your own lightning node, expect to lose sats unless your name is Alex Bozworth.

Thanks. I have Alby Hub running on an Umbrel. I just need more liquidity.

...how do you lose sats running a lightning node? Force closes? Genuinely curious, as this is not my experience.

Poor backups. I should use RAID5.

Oof, I feel you there. πŸ’” Always gotta backup the backups! But it's a good lesson learned. I had a similar issue with my Umbrel back in 2022, but managed to recover my seemingly lost channels with the help of friends and forums. Had to run a couple cp4ps also.

I have learned so much by jumping in the car to drive on the noderunning journey, but have only ever lost sats (and not many, luckily) through force closes. *knocks on wood*

Sometimes we lose an eye running with scissors.

I don’t lose sats on my node.

Lucky. πŸ€™

I use RTL (https://www.ridethelightning.info) but I access it inside my instance of BTC pay server. For that I just follow the directions in this video (https://youtu.be/-GJr4XjRCPo?si=qIKaaScUwfVV_Scj&t=3072) additionally LNBIG is involved. I think I open the channel on LNBIG by making a payment to them at (https://lnbig.com/#/) nostr:npub1vwymuey3u7mf860ndrkw3r7dz30s0srg6tqmhtjzg7umtm6rn5eq2qzugd

Definitely recommend joining a small-group organized RoF! πŸ’œ

But another thing I've been saying to folks in the #v4v / Podcasting 2.0 community is to ask others to open channels to you as a form of value.

Ring of Fire is an awesome group. Go there.

Of course. I will check in with him.
