Hi, All! Question:

I am looking for recommendations of - Low-power (not hi-voltage) BTC miner for solo BTC mining? I am looking for a miner with WIFI connection if such a device exists.

I am currently looking on eBay, but am willing to buy elsewhere. Thank you!!!

As long as you understand that at such a low hash rate the likelihood of hitting a block is extremely low, the BitAxe ticks all those boxes. I

Just search for BitAxe Gamma online for various distributors. Nerdminer store and others.

I can’t recommend a seller because the place I got mine in Canada took 6 months to get it to me. But I’m sure there’s others that have better availability. BitAxe’s are really for educational purposes only, but there’s always that one chance every ten minutes…..

I grabbed a BitAxe Gamma with a cooling option that has a fan that pulls air sideways on top of cooling fins on top of the chip, rather than sucking air inline through the components. Less likelihood of gumming up the inner workings of the unit with dust.

Thank you! I appreciate the details. Also, I appreciate you setting expectations that this miner isn’t a “lightsaber.” I am thinking about getting a couple small miners to connect to my WiFi here at home. If they pay for themselves, I’m happy. If not…well, I’ll see them as expensive lottery tickets. 🤡. Again, thank you for the answer!

Look for a bit axe.

Thank you!

This is the other one I was going to suggest.

Guess it depends what your goals are. Nerdminers work for that but their hashrate is akin to a CPU on a laptop. Low power use, but chance of ever hitting a block next to zero, nor capable of being worthwhile pool mining. They would be handy for testnet mining though.

Bitaxes are a little more worthwhile. Still very low chance of ever hitting a block, but at least they are ASIC's.

Either could be used if you're exploring the mechanics of running a mining pool and need something to point at it.

Both work with WiFi.

Not sure how low power you want as you mentioned voltage, not wattage. You can get S9's modified to run on household 120v, but they will pull almost 1.5 kilowatts, and usually don't make sense unless you're using them as a heat source. They do make excellent space heaters though. They don't natively have wifi but bridge adapters do exist.

Also, I think you meant #asknostr not @asknostr

True. Thank you for pointing that out!

The plus side of the S9 is that they are suitable for pool mining. You won't get much, but if you run a space heater anyway, they will recoup some, in the form of wild sats. Just make sure you get one modified to run on 120v as they were manufactured for 240v. Not sure what the modding process itself is like, but many exist.

Tanks so much for your detailed answer! I was thinking of Bitaxe miners. Something that doesn’t require a lot of power.
