Just finished watching Dark City (1998), and I’m blown away.

I’m genuinely stunned by how underappreciated this film is.

The imagery is surreal, impressionistic—completely unique. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

Here’s a cool discovery: the film belongs to a genre called tech noir. I had no idea that was even a thing, and now I want to dive into more films like it.

I actually found Dark City through a YouTube video about The Matrix—turns out it was a major influence. The green tint, the illusion of reality, even the concept of “The One” all seem to draw from Dark City.

Whether you loved The Matrix or not, I highly recommend giving this one a watch. It’s a hidden gem. I'd give a 10 out of 10.

In my chat with ChatGPT, I learned that Blade Runner (1982) is also one of them, and I think you might have watched it.

Actually, the colors and the setting check out.

It also included The Terminator (1984) and RoboCop (1987) as tech noir, which I found surprising. (Btw, RoboCop is my favorite of all time.)

The last one on ChatGPT’s list was Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989), which I haven’t heard about.
