My experience with #NixOS so far:
+ installation was easy and fast
+ installing packages/software, creating generations, and switching is amazing
- switching back and forth b/n gnome and plasma sucks. It messes up the installed software icons, and the mouse pointer turns into a square instead of the arrow. Ugly and annoying.
? Don't get how and why the last point happens in a declarative environment.

Mostly anything related to display managers, windowing systems and such sucks on Linux.
It seems to be very hard to make that part interoperable, not to mention all the closed source drivers and firmware it has to cope with.
The whole thing's a mess.
I blame it on closed source.
Also sound and graphics can be tricky to make them work.
What nixos and linux in general is good at is running open-source software that is less dependent on closed hardware.
I.e. servers and development.
