What EU and US don’t understand is that they aren’t the only places on earth to live. Bitcoiners will favor places without witch hunts as they will have options to choose from. So for European authoritarians my sincerest GFY
I think it's more about keeping the rest of the world in mind than not understanding it.
There might also be an element of frustration in recognizing that the largest gains from Bitcoin are going to accrue elsewhere, at least in the short term.

Those limits would ratchet-down at regular intervals until cash is banned. Why are dystopian hellscapes is so damned appealing to bureaucrats?

Already happening in Germany. You may also not pay anything in cash over 10k. No cash payments on houses, cars etc. Pathing the path for the digital euro in record speed.
I suspect capital flight scares the shit out of them when it's so easy currently.
And this is all to protect me. How I am not grateful for that 🤮
