I called QuickBooks Self-Employed to see if I could lower my rate or change my subscription. The person who answered wasn’t speaking clearly, and trying to understand them was honestly painful. I hung up, took a break, and tried calling back an hour later - only to get the same person again. Unsurprisingly, I still couldn’t make sense of the subscription options. There’s nothing worse than reaching out to customer support and getting zero actual support.

With all that being said, I’m open to any alternatives to self-employed QuickBooks. #asknostr

Who are you keeping books for?

If you're doing it for the government, just stop.

It’s for me

I hope you find a goof solution; for myself, I just hack custom ODS spreadsheets as needed.😃

Hmm, would you mind sharing a blank one that you use?

Retired now, don't think I have any template you'd find useful...

What are the most important things you want to track?🤔 Client hours and billing rates? Mileage? Out of pocket job expenses?

Whipping up a custom sheet is easy, even kinda fun, and gets easier the more you do it.😃

Looking to track my expenses, income, and miles for now I think. I’ll need a way to calculate my quarterly estimated taxes as well!

My wife is a bookkeeper that uses QuickBooks online... If she has an answer to the subscription part of the question I'll let you know.

Thanks kevin 🤞🏼

Here's her response:

"Quickbooks self employed is TERRIBLE! It’s a standalone accounting software product from Quickbooks. You cannot change the subscription level or to a different Quickbooks product easily. Personal I think Quickbooks Online is the most superior accounting program out there. Essentially, since you started in Quickbooks self employed you have to manually move the transactions to a new company profile in Quickbooks Online. There is an app called Transaction Pro that helps you export info and then put into a new Quickbooks Online company file. It does make it much faster.

With some more info about what you’re trying to do, I can give further advice on how to transition."

nostr:npub1c8n9qhqzm2x3kzjm84kmdcvm96ezmn257r5xxphv3gsnjq4nz4lqelne96 she also offered to do a phone call with you to consult if you need it.

Amazing thank you! So I looked at this and it’s still quite expensive. I have been looking at wave accounting and think this may be a better route. It’s cheaper and has all of the features of online quickbooks. Is she familiar with wave?

No sir. But hopefully it works out for you!

She's pretty much QuickBooks only. They are a standard for a reason. I've been hoping Zaprite will come along and dethrone them though 😂🤣

Quickbooks is hard to beat for connecting to your accounts and keeping track of everything all in one place. GNUCash and spreadsheets can work depending on how complex your accounting needs are. Xero is more on part as a quickbooks competitor.

Ah never heard of xero. I will look at that, thank you
