Hey friends, this is how I recommend saving lettuce seeds for ease and joy!
As with most plants, there are numerous ways to save lettuce seeds, but this results in the easiest cleaning experience.
Lettuce flowers sequentially so seeds dont all ripen at once. You get the seeds that are exactly ripe now, and the plant can continue flowering and ripening seeds. Technically, you can keep coming back for more seeds every few days if you want!
I winnow larger amounts of seeds with a fan, but most people just need a small amount of seeds, and our breath or a light breeze is perfect!

I've never even bothered seperating lettuce seeds from the chaf, it doesn't seem to cause any issues during storage.
That said, I personally do not care for growing lettuce, the lettuce I have growing is all volunteers. I just let them self seed when they bolt. Whatever the birds don't eat ends up back in the soil
