If your doctor refuses to help you get the labs you want, tell him to go fuck himself and just use ownyourlabs.com - you just buy whatever labs you want, get a req, go to LabCorp and get blood drawn.

Is this nature^Wmedicine healing in the US? Bullish.
I love your attitude!..😎
This happened to me with attempting to get LDL particle size / NMR tests and having my doctor say he doesn't know what that is and the office can't get it for me. Referred me to a cardiologist - he also had no idea wtf it was.
(Pro-tip: if you happen to be in certain blacklisted states you might have to get creative with your home address on the site)
It’s funny I went to have blood drawn today and I ticked off a couple extra tests my GP hadn’t asked for on the req. Ones that should have been.
It's insane to me that some states (a little cluster in the northeast) have laws against you ordering your own blood labs.
Could they make it any more obvious that they want you dependent on the system?
Welcome to my world as a health care professional in a sea of those who simply follow the playbook.
It's only the very few academic or academically oriented doctors who ever read any published research. Most doctors wouldn't even know how to do so critically. Doctors are trained to strictly follow protocol, because to do otherwise exposes them to liability. This is how the system retains them as dumb agents for the pharmaceutical industry. Flexner and Carnegie saw to this in 1910
Exactly. I work among them.
Those that challenge the system are thwarted; those that persist are persecuted.
Liability and profit drive much of healthcare. It wasn’t nearly as bad 40 years ago.
I’d like a fasting insulin level along with my A1c so I can continue to calculate and track my HOMA-IR and thus see if my efforts to lower my insulin resistance are effective. Pretty please may I doc?
“Well, we already know you are diabetic, so no….what’s a HOMA-IR?”
