A central theme driving this system is gassification: the process of creating syngas from wood and using that to fuel an internal combustion engine.

I didn't believe it either.

Here is a video of a small gassifier.

These are only valuable if they're producing enough to fuel a generator that produces 5+ kwh

They exist. MWx installations exist.

Trick is to get them smaller.

Not impossible.

Yeah, but they cost 20-50k. And I have been unable to find forestry mulchers that collect the chips anymore. Seems like we missed the train...

The idea is not new. Opel Kapitän.

This video is dated and the design has many flaws (gas isn't clean enough to really run an engine for a long time etc).

The Wood Gasifeir's handbook is a great guide on building a better DIY one.

But, if you're serious about this, you do it at a larger scale with professional equipment: https://www.holz-kraft.com/en/products/hka-600.html

This is perfect for agroforestry farms and larger properties with a lot of fast growing trees that also need heating for something (greenhouse, spa, housing, ...) and they can do bitcoin mining with the elec. #woodgas

Eustis from the Mountain Man series built a pickup that ran on wood gas.
