I don't think this is limited to just phones. Consumer mentality in general is just very poor. Lots to be said about things being made to be more disposable now, coupled with the fact that repair as a skill is far less prevalent and dying more every generation. Also, as we move to more subscription and membership models, I imagine there will be an upsurge in "it broke so just send it to us and we'll send you a new one". Lots of compounding things here but yeah I feel like this has parallels in cars, medical devices, phones, lots of different products and services. People just take what is handed to them without question. Or they complain or request that their thing be made better. They never think of actually making it better themselves. I often find other people's ignorance/laziness frustrating if I'm considering myself a 'power user' in that context
