My husband and I are going to start keeping chickens this year. Do you have any advice for someone new to chickens?
Baby chicks fighting over red wigglers 🤣.
Incubated 27 eggs, 21 hatched.
15/15 of my eggs hatched, the other 12 were from a friend's farm - wanted to diversify the genetics on the farm & get more egg colors!

Mix your own feed.
Clean water = healthy birds, have multiple water locations.
Prepare a lot of mulch to give them as bedding.
Prepare another mulch pile for them to dig around in for bugs & worms but importantly, to dump their dirty water & to clean their feeders & waterers. You don't want mud & broken down mulch which birds have lived on makes for potent garden compost!
Electric fencing from premier 1 the heavy duty double pronged, got a speedrite solar energizer bc @rafa told me to 🫡.
I definitely needed that mulch tip. Our property gets really muddy when it rains. It’s like walking through a swamp.
