Communism is just hardcore socialism. When you try to create equality through redistribution and that doesn't work because you still allow some private property, they turn to communism to finish the job. Which always results in dictatorship. Usually some socialist is "democraticly" elected. Then the seasure of the means of production happens. When the government owns the means of production "socialism" it becomes impossible for people to remain democratic when the government then says, well if you don't vote for me, then you're not getting food. And then you get communism.
