It's much more ergonomic imo, and helps with impersonation a little bit.

I wonder if thatβs true. I hardly know anyoneβs nip5. I do like the βfollowingβ label but the way clients implement it now is not very clear.
I know Jack's NIP05 will be cashapp or block domain as an example, he's got a lot of impersonators that get retweeted all the time
So weβre doing it mostly for high profile people?
I kinda think of it like a vanity plate on a car too. I rock mine to support nostr:npub138s5hey76qrnm2pmv7p8nnffhfddsm8sqzm285dyc0wy4f8a6qkqtzx624
Verification is a very wrong word for it though. Human readable handle or DNS handle seems better to me.

It's a good way to find someone. We changed the name by consensus a few months ago to "nostr address". It could be compared to email or DNS servers, they are expendable but more convenient for the end user.
And micro celebrities like nostr:npub137c5pd8gmhhe0njtsgwjgunc5xjr2vmzvglkgqs5sjeh972gqqxqjak37w and nostr:npub1jk9h2jsa8hjmtm9qlcca942473gnyhuynz5rmgve0dlu6hpeazxqc3lqz7
