Grief and sadness can often show up on holidays and special events after experiencing narcissistic abuse.
There are many reasons for this. It’s often a time when we reflect on the past and all of our relationships.
We miss loved ones that are not around and grieve others who are no longer with us.
We also feel a sense of loss of years or decades of wanting and trying to have healthy relationships. The highlight reel of everyone else’s lives doesn’t help either.
The most important thing is to allow yourself to have these thoughts and emotions. Not to dwell on them. Simply so you don’t suppress them.
Your thoughts and emotions are not wrong no matter what anyone says.
Give yourself a little extra grace and compassion on the hard days.
