These guys figured it out

But seriously, do ISP's have a family recipe that they use to make it. What's the sauce?

There is a “backbone” that ISPs tie into. For details read how NYC mesh did it, and talk to them.

I vaguely remember reading how folks started their own rural ISP, although I cant find that article/website

Hhhm, maybe I should dig some holes to see if my property has some internet springs 🤣

The mythical rainbow cables...

Is there a pot of internet at the end of the rainbow?

I'm not sure. I was going to check, but I was interrupted by a leprechaun disguised as my site manager. He then proceeded to fire me from my construction job. /:

Talk to the people who are tracking the work, or have done the work

Man is this interesting 🧐 nostr:npub1aeh2zw4elewy5682lxc6xnlqzjnxksq303gwu2npfaxd49vmde6qcq4nwx have you connected with these guys?

No, haven’t heard of this.

Still an ISP I think but look into Cogentco, they’re pretty big

Tier 1 ISP's are the Internet backbone, they transit the most traffic and have the most connections.

Think HE, Cogent etc

But where is/ what is the fountain head of "the internet" ?

They are the source of the internet

Ok and what is it that source exactly? A server farm or triplets having visions in a tub of lube?

Huge datacentres and many routers on multiple continents. Add to this the under water optic cables and you got the internet

There is no source it's just a bunch of companies who are connected together to form the Internet.

Then you also have ARIN/RIPE/APNIC these organisations control the allocation of Internet numbers in each region.
