when you post your YouTube video to nostr it can’t be suppressed

YouTube becomes just your video storage with a share link

Unless YT takes it down?

Or are you copy pasting?

I keep asking creators there to post here as well.

Is that bad?

Talk to me like I don't understand (no lie)

Don’t you need to host that video somewhere?

And if we come up with a resilient alternative to YouTube we can really get the truth out

PeerTube is worth a look. Possibly what you're looking for.

Sure but let’s fork it with Nostr for identity!

And add zaps!

😂 Unless YouTube decides to nuke the link.

Or it gets DMCA’d

Or it gets region locked

Or it gets client locked

Or…

I never share direct YouTube links for this reason (unless giving a source).

I yt-dlp the video and stick it in a bucket then share that link.

Ofc that's not super decentralised either. But I could put it on Arweave, IPFS, etc for decentralised storage.

yt-dlp is the best.

Fr. I use it all the time. Only failed to work on two websites. It works on everything else I've thrown at it.

and give up the ad revenue?

Haha, you'd think this, but they remove content all of the time. Most of the time it's ot even on purpose. It's their over aggressive content moderation tools that need to be seriously looked at and overhauled.

Yep their moderation algo eats comments too.

No joke on this: whenever I post a comment with "Davos" in it, it gets shadowbanned. It shows for my account, but not if I open the thread in a private browsing session.

For most people (anyone except super big "YouTubers") ad revenue on YouTube is pretty much nothing anyway.

If you've produced something for the Nostr audience you'll probably make more in sats from zaps.

Exactly

But also post to other video hosts like rumble, bitchute, odyssey

Rather use other methods of sharing than YouTube, it can be a real bitch with some topics.

Try noagendatube for uploading and sharing; it’s better that way IMO

is YouTube subsidized by Alphabet ? how can they afford to host 8K video when most porno sites can't even afford 4K ?

i would like to see some kind of bit-torrent based solution for video. i just don't like the odds of sites like bitchute surviving long term. why rely on 3rd parties ?
