what are the options for a small bitcoin miner for fun? small footprint. don't care if it makes any sats or not. Just want to run one to contribute a tiny hash rate to the network.

Yes that’s the one. You can update to a special firmware they provide to convert to a miner.
You have to download the miner-specific firmware.
