the damus relay is actually a paid relay. find ways to subsidize the cost of your relay by building businesses on nostr. Charging directly for a relay seems like a poor value prop for users.

After some reflection, I agree 100% with Will. Directly paying for a relay is like paying a torrent tracker. There will always be people willingly doing it for free. Altruism will always exist.
how about this - one time $100 refundable fee for lifetime of use - you can get $100 back anytime you wish and end the service. of course the $100 you get back will be worth less due to inflation, and the difference is what covers the service.
