I disagree. I see a clear tendency of many people denying reality, not interested in a diverse perspective and just sticking to those people that confirm their views. I think it's a real problem of society but then again everybody is free to choose to stay in their little world.

It’s a lot easier to persuade a friend than a stranger on the internet, don’t you agree?

People first strive for belonging, and then they can have fun and play with new ideas in a safe community space.

Sure, but rarely people step outside their comfort zone. And I am not saying that you can be part of a community (which by definition shares a lot of your beliefs)

When do they step outside their comfort zone? How often people change their minds when they’re confronted on the internet for everyone to see? I bet it easier to do it in the dms.
