And then those 1000 companies repackage it and enrich it with data from other platforms too. This is the game every business is playing to try and find customers online, but its gone way overboard
I wish that one day you could browse the net with a LN wallet attached and when a site wants your data they pay you and you just sign your ZK proof for whatever data they wanted to query
Theres a lot of money floating around in this space, if you're feeding it, they should pay you, same with this chatGPT stuff
Thatβs something that ive been aware for over 15yrs now yet if youβre not a techy or so rich that you dont have to use social media as a sales tool.. explain how else to build if youβre not employed by big cooperations?
Even though I canβt sell anything on marketplace because spam advertising is cheap AF ..
use #amethyst marketplace and sell it here on #nostr for sats π€π»
Actually funny is that if you want to delete your account, you need to wait like month for the deletion.
When I was deleting my only one account I had like 12 years in December, I wondered what they are doing with these data to make that deletion so long.
Actually my profile was deleted at first January this year
yup. congratulations ππ«π

How Facebook Undermines Privacy Protections for Its 2 Billion WhatsApp Users
"WhatsApp assures users that no one can see their messages β but the company has an extensive monitoring operation and regularly shares personal information with prosecutors."
use #simplex (more private) or #molly (a hardened fork of #signal) instead for actual e2ee messaging

It's a great piece of advice, unfortunately in some places it's not applicable π΅
what place can you not access #simplex using a vpn with orbot/tor?
works in iran, china, etc. not sure about n. korea, but i assume it also needs to be downloaded before entering the country etc.
I say this because the use of WhatsApp is deeply rooted in certain places where it is valued how βfreeβ it results in mobile data plans offered by telephone operators. Privacy is not a priority in those cases.
But what actually is a best solution for family use?
You know, my parents and grandparents are using WhatsApp and I use it to communicate with them.
What is a best friendly app for old ppl with at least some security?
Iβll try to convince them to switch, bcs WhatsApp is only my one account in Meta ecosystem.
Actually I guess still that if I have allowed to delete my data daily on WhatsApp it would not matter to security?

Yep, they nudge for plaintext cloud backups, completely undermines e2ee
The only missing piece keeping me away from going all in with recommending simplex is that there currently is no redundancy as far as I know. Each contact just uses one server to reach the other, if that server is down for some reason, hard luck I guess π..
