Unix has always been the best operating system in the world because of its philosophy:

- Write programs that do one thing and do it well.

- Write programs that work together.

- Write programs that handle text streams, because it is a universal interface.

FreeBSD is a pure and hard Unix because its code derives from BSD which in turn derives from the original Unix of AT&T Labs.

Linux on the other hand is a Unix clone since its code was written from scratch and never shared code with the original Unix.

It is true that for years Linux followed the Unix philosophy but that has long since come to an end, so today Linux should not even be considered a Unix clone because of the horrendous systemd controlled by Lennart Poettering and in turn by Microsoft.

What is happening to Linux could very well happen to Bitcoin, so keep your eyes open, no matter how good a project is it can end up degrading, but luckily we have the BSD family that unlike the Linux family have always had very clear objectives, to be UNIX.

Do you really think an init system with run levels that create various guessing games regarding dependencies is superior to integrated dependency management?

Seems like inevitable progress to me.

Change my mind!
