◾️ Israel’s 30 days of uninterrupted bombardment killed 9,770 Palestinians in Gaza, including 4,800 children and 2,509 women. Additionally, 2,200 more Palestinians are reported as missing, with half of them being children, and almost 25,000 others have been injured.
◾️ Ultra-nationalist Israeli official Amichai Eliyahu called “dropping nuclear bombs on Gaza [...] one of the possibilities.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to remove the minister from parliament but suspended Eliyahu from subsequent sessions.
◾️ Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas said the PA could return to power in the Gaza Strip at a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He confirmed the PA could play a “central role in what comes next in Gaza.” Since October 7, massive anti-PA protests have erupted in the West Bank, condemning the PA’s inaction in response to the ongoing war.
◾️ As Israeli ground troops penetrate deeper into urban areas in Gaza, videos released by Palestinian armed groups depict extreme close-combat situations. The footage shows numerous Merkava tanks being destroyed, each valued at $3.5 million.
◾️ Iran threatened the US to be “hit hard” if a ceasefire is not implemented. Israeli PM Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken maintain that a ceasefire is not currently an option.
◾️ Three different refugee camps in Gaza were targeted by Israeli bombings this week, including Jabalia, Gaza’s largest refugee camp, which was bombed three times in just four days. The other targeted refugee camps, Maghazi and Bureij, are located in Gaza’s southern area, which Israel designated as a “safe evacuation area.”
◾️ The Gaza ruling armed group said over 60 of the 200+ hostages captured on October 7 have gone “missing” following renewed Israeli airstrikes. Israel has repeatedly called the release of all hostages as a precondition for a ceasefire, while Gaza’s armed groups claim Israel repeatedly rejected offers to hand over captives.
