Primal links the kyc info of your wallet to your npub

Then better use a wallet that has no information about you and fill it through #monero š
What node said.
Y'all buying sats from Primal?
I was referring to the setup of their wallet
When you setup the wallet, they ask for your kyc info. That info is then automatically linked to your npub. Primal CEO said so š¤·š¾āāļø
The Damus guy said thatās the only way that Primal can uses zaps, as long as the App Store gets a piece. But that canāt be right, because there are plenty of clients that allow you to use NWC and they are not restricted like Damus.
If you use Damus, just use this script to enable note zaps
I was trying to point out that there has to be another reason why Damus canāt natively zap since there are plenty of clients that operate like Damus but arenāt restricted.
Admittedly, I havenāt used it yet, but, YakiHonne seems to have the same functionality as Damus, without the need for a hack, So I canāt help but wonder what else they did that Apple treats them this way.
At first the feature was included in Damus. Then Apple threatened to remove it from the app store if they kept the note zaps. They were cracking down on the app because itās one of the most popular nostr clients and the note zaps goes against their in app purchases. Will, the creator of the app, found a sly roundabout way with the script
Iām still up in the air on how I feel about their 30% take. I agree that nothing is free, so if youāre advertising a free app in their store, theyāll have to get their cut some other way. At least theyāre not charging them monthly ārentā, regardless of what they sell, that would really bury most developers rather quickly.
Now, they do offer a subscription, that would guarantee they get a cut, except not everyone subscribes. So, weāre back to square one, how does Apple guarantee it gets a cut? By taxing zaps.
I donāt necessarily agree with their tactics, but I can certainly understand them. At the end of the day, they are still just a business.
I also donāt think popularity had anything to do with it, thatās kind of petty. I canāt see a multi trillion dollar company going after a single developer because his app does well and theyāre not getting a piece of the action.
I also canāt see Apple allowing these other apps to continue violating their policies simply because the apps arenāt that popular. So, there has to be something else weāre missing.
It was definitely because of app popularity (number of downloads). They were trying to send a message. Smaller clients still have note zaps
Not sure if they get a cut for the Damus membership. You pay with sats on a Damus website. I donāt know if thereās an option to pay with fiat
What message, that we only enforce our policies on popular apps? Iām sure you can see how silly that sounds.
As far as membership, I wasnāt aware you could purchase it on their website or without standard currency, thatās probably what pissed them off. Now itās starting to make sense.
Damus is actively circumventing Appleās policies in order to avoid paying their dues.
No the message that they want apps to use in app purchases for transactions inside the app. They used Damus as an example.
The Damus membership came later than this situation with the note zaps. The two are unrelated
Did Will tell you all of this because it makes no damn sense and Damus isnāt that important. Itās one app, from a relatively unknown protocol and an unknown developer, with less than 700 downloads.
The stripped down version would be that Apple told him they would remove his app if he didnāt comply with the rules he agreed to when he brought his app to the store in the first place and he got pissy about it, plain and simple.
And instead of complying, he creates a hack to hide the functionality from them. He then doubles down by offering subscriptions outside of the store as well. Yeah, that sounds like him and it explains why Apple would continue to give him a hard time.
Less than 700 downloads? Youāre mistaken sir. This week alone there was 1000+ downloads š
That was one day actually š. Weāre excited for the growth! Hopefully other apps are seeing similar spikes
Even better š¤
Out of all of that, thatās what you choose to jump on? Not that heās actively violating their rules and inflating his own self worth to make it sound like Apple is out to get him, but because their download count is wrong? š¤¦š»āāļø
It could have a million downloads, the guy is still a douchebag and it looks like Iām not the only one who realized that, LMAO.
Iām not looking to argue about facts. Enjoy your day Kevin
Itās interesting that you would mention facts when thatās all I have been trying to get out of you all day, LMAO.
I was curious what the factual reason for Apple, treating Damus differently, was, and I got my answer.
Have a great day.
Apple doesnāt like zap. They want apps to use in app purchases so they can take their cut. Thatās the reason.
Have a great day too
And round and round we go. If that were the case, there wouldnāt be any apps that allow it, but there are. And before you say it, popularity has nothing to do with it. That would be idiotic for Apple to allow some apps to operate unrestricted simply because they have a lower user base.
What youāre saying isnāt a fact, itās an opinion based on the information you have available, and thatās fine.
My opinion, based on the information available, is that Apple simply doesnāt like Damus and I can certainly understand why.
So far, the only apps that I have found that require a purchase from the AppStore, are apps that have their own wallet built into the app. Primal and Current both have to pay for zaps. So, maybe it has something more to do with wanting to use your own wallet rather than using NWC to access your funds.
