there was no choice. But yes, that was terrible. Making it a company set those wheels in motion.

Thanks. If there was nothing you could do about it, don’t regret it. Nostr exists because of Twitter, onward
But not sure Elon is following through with taking it private either. Unfortunately he has turned it into a cash cow and monetizing almost everything. It is starting to look more and more like a sinking ship. So sad.
in terms of monetizing, it def needs to move away from dependence on brand ads and he’s accelerating a bunch of that. A lot of debt to consider. So, I understand the urgency and hasty moves. I hope he realizes eventually that basing it on an open protocol like this solves many of the problems and enables a pretty incredible business. We shall see.
On a platform where Elon bans journalists and linking to competitors websites (e.g Substack, Mastodon) i don’t see a future where twitter gets based on an open protocol
Anything and everything is possible over time.
Can’t argue with that. Would be amazing to have a Nostr - Bluesky - Twitter interoperability in the future
Did he reverse that decision?
In Elon's recent convo with Bill Maur he stated Twitter was stabling out. Many things can coexist, twitter like facebook has a large user base that businesses will continue to advertise and utilize. Nostr seems to be farther up the graph and the super spreaders may not be able to get a critical mass to use it. Bitcoin is harder than solving a rubiks cube in my opinion whereas using the dollar and twitter/ tictoc/ facebook is still easier than navigating even google.
Yes. I agree. He has to be pragmatic. However too much monetizing will discourage the average user. In fact he potentially runs the risk of losing users. We'll see. Time will tell. And I agree with the open protocol route.
i think most people don't recognise how much of his twitter behaviour and coding is rooted in adjusting narratives and rhetoric from within the content margins. i also think there's a serious refashioning of language comprehension on a global access scale on the platform, occurring at a mind-bending rate.
the concepts of information and financial exchange are misappropriated widely across economics and rhetorical narratives, and many do not understand the concept of data/sat/information wealth in all of its complexities.
elon is deliberate and consistent, even if he is able to delve deep into the social coding networks. people don't like disruption and discomfort and they hate being inconvenienced. elon is doing all of those things by breaking unethical and immoral filter bubbles.
there's great value in the original code base for twitter, which is also the code base used for nostr.
it federalised the blockchain and all comms on the platform ("public") and it was done in such a way as to endanger you and everyone else forced into compliance and secrecy. and you managed to continue to be consistent in your refusal to comply by sidestepping the modalities forced onto you, trying to protect everyone else when they didn't realise you needed protection the most.
