GM Nostr.

how does this work? if I transmit a note on primal, does it broadcast to only the relays I have hooked up to primal? or does it transmit to the ones I got on Amethyst too?

Maybe this is 101 Nostr, but I slept through the lecture.

The first thing. Any client you use has a set of relays configured to read from and write to.

Different clients with different relays will read and write to different places.

One thing that helps is (one day) setting up a personal relay that you put in all your clients so you at least have your own copy of all your own notes.

We hope (we being https://vaporware.network) to make it simple to self-host a personal proxy relay - meaning ONE relay you connect to which in turn connects to many others. All your clients would connect to JUST this one, which handles everything for you (better for device battery life and performance too). Not yet, though :)

YOUR RELAY LIST IS THE SAME REGARDLESS OF THE APP YOU USE.

Not strictly true.

I think your relay list should follow your npub. So you should have the same relay list on both clients. Iโ€™ve definitely seen where some donโ€™t show up on one client or another though. But in theory any notes should post to any relay that are attached to your npub

I experimented with this a while back. It seems inconsistent but when I had fewer relays on primal, my posts got less engagement. I did notice recently that the relays I had on damus eventually synced up with primal. But idk how that works because I logged into primal on desktop a few weeks ago and it nuked all my relays on primal but not damus.

Same. Noticing some inconsistency

Do you use a different client? Primal isnโ€™t loading notes properly today

Thinking about trying Iris or something else.

Apparently primal is having issues so use damus or amethyst for now

My private relay was setup on Damus but I only use Primal. Everything is backed up on my Relay. Confirmed.
