It’s so bad. Pure evil.
It’s sad because I post videos to YouTube and watch it a lot. It’s a glorious catalogue of human creativity. But also fully corrupted by the perverse fiat incentives.
However it’s also a monopoly that is stronger than ever. Rumble is a joke and Vimeo gave up directly competing long ago.
The only solution I’ve found is to post the same content to my website, self-hosted on Peertube, using a value for value model without ads and sponsorships. If anyone ever complains about the sponsors on my YouTube channel, I smugly direct them to a different system where they can opt out. They almost never do.
I’m so close to just throwing away my TV and never opening YouTube again.

Never had a TV in the first place. It doesn't get more fiatvyhan a TV in your living room.
YouTube is Google, so you get your indoctrination from them as you won't see the things they want you to see. Which leaves you with entertaunment, little and valuable DIY stuff and outright propaganda.
In any case you are better off without it.
Make Nostr the place where people share DIY stuff in a self-sovereign way and we win.
Using Freetube or Invidious instead of YT official solved the Shorts problem once for good for me , amongst the other privacy issues and algorithmic jail 😅

Freetube is desktop only but exists in portable version for all OS
You can use our invidious instance for online use if you like, I will DM you the address if you like.
The only major downside to invidious is for some reason it won’t play all the copyrighted videos (official music vids from major labels, vevo , etc..) but apart from that it works like a charm 😌
Actually I spoke too fast, seems like YT literally just updated their code and both solutions have decipher issue today. Updates usually come quick though
