Have alt social media platforms become telegram groups / forums for particular interest groups? Seems like a challenge to break out of these groups (part of the challenge is pre-existing group itself lol, I'm avoiding saying 'gatekeeping' here). 🤔
If alt social media is really just big interest groups, then Nostr should really lean into communities and community relays. We're well-positioned to serve that market niche.
Yep I agree, there is also the opportunity of Other Stuff. For example that substack alt Letr, I'm curious if that will take off. Theyve certainly got a (tech) press angle they can get attention off.
It is a tight ethnocentric bond, which most people have never experienced much beyond. Stems from the tribal and belonging egocentric self finding magical bonding. Not saying these things are bad, as they are necessary at certain times. Being stuck there tho can cause problems, such as an us vs them mentality and it is hard to break thru. But I am really just babbling now about nothing.
The babbling makes sense. I wonder if there is anything post-twitter? Will twitter be the last platform that had this 'town square' mentality, (multiple-tribes?) groups existing side by side, Venn diagraming on occasion and (often) arguing? Is post-arguimg social media just blocking and balkanised platforms? I don't know, I'm just babbling
I'm not sure. Sometimes I think it is/was the last, but am still hopeful.
Ime to reach beyond strict ethnocentricity, the scientific method and any process of trial and error cements a more rational and sound perspective. And beyond that, it seems meditation and contemplation bring in a more integral worldview.
Tolerance and compassion really are key. Because even within tribes, there is fighting. But hopefully, a few members in each have integrated some of the parts of themselves that work against themselves and can show others the way by example. But horses to water and all that jazz.
