Once you go down this rabbit hole, you realize how much of American society is designed around the car.

Parking minimums, suburban design, all of it -- for a lot of Americans, and particularly I think the current center-Right leaning culture of Bitcoin, the "good life" means a house in the suburbs in a community that revolves around car use.

It's one of those "Matrix" things -- once you're aware of it, every time you leave the house or visit some more suburban area, you see how many intentional design choices there are in the built environment that make it hostile to walk, bike, or do anything except drive to get from point A to B.

Oh damn, was guessing the percentage oil consumption attributable to transportation would be lower than expected...but a quick google tells me it's the majority!
