cos the closest a hetero dude can get otherwise is a really good best friend or a close brother or cousin and not everyone gets to have those.
a really good best friend will visit you in the hospital, and talk to you on the roof of a house late at night under stars, and cover your rent in an emergency. which are very husband duties just platonic. a lot of husband duties are, tho.
some cultures allow for that more than others. even platonic handholding between dude friends. which, to me, is so nice and a very normal thing.
and yea i do know for an absolute fact, not only are their dude best friends in gaza who want their best friend to do better than them, but they would they also prefer their best friend to get out if only one of them can, would shelter their best friend with their very own body on reflex instinct, would rather die so their friend can still live.
