I strongly agree with you, but I think seeing that within the United States is going to require that the US Dollar collapses first. That's why I'm mostly interested in seeing circular economies self-organizing in places where it is really needed first. Places where people are getting phones and have needs, but don't have the capital needed to pay for basic goods and services. I think we can imagine and dream about how it could take over in the US, but that's a down the road problem for me. I don't mind taxes, because they at least partially pay for things that I care about. Of course there are things I don't like, but I've given up on our ability to influence that.

Absolutely it could work in the US, but I think we're going to need to see it used at the lower end of the value spectrum first on a regular basis. I'm accumulating within a lightning wallet so I can refill my zap bucket when I need to before Monday when I really hope we'll see a lot of people sharing photos of the eclipse on Nostr that we can enjoy and pay for. Paying for entertainment with zaps in the US is very different from paying for food in the Kakuma refugee camp, but both can be done on the same network.
