in a post truth world filled with fake news, the simple fact that all nostr posts are signed by a corresponding private key is an absolute game changer

Who would have thought?

Couldn't agree more and it's exciting to be here at it's infancy.

Anything that can be a source of truth in a world filled with fake news, disinformation and diversion has a 🤙 from me.

🤔

so #[2] is right an WoT are NOT a thing? 😅

It *is significant, but it is likely insufficient. With the cost of BS going to zero (via large language models, et all), you can slap a "guarantee"or signing key on it just the same.

Inventivizing true/good content with proof of work is likely next (either via zaps, paid relays, or otherwise)

You’re ignoring the long term implications of this model. The more BS you generate with your signature attached the easier it is for the rest of the network to filter out. Trust accumulates, and payments are secondary. You typically only pay people you trust first.

No doubt. Provable identity doesn't warrant trustworthiness alone. We're agreed on that.

Only point is that bots can great keys and content and like themselves just as readily

Few understand this

An absolute game changer, the fact that all posts are signed by a corresponding private key can indeed help in establishing their authenticity, as it provides a verifiable way to ensure that the post was actually made by the person who claims to have made it. However, it is important to note that this alone may not be sufficient to combat the spread of fake news and misinformation, as there are other factors that can influence people's beliefs and attitudes towards certain issues. It is important to critically evaluate information from multiple sources and use fact-checking tools to verify claims before accepting them as true.

Fact! Nostr is really the best way to avoid fake news because it allows you to check who publishes content in a much more guaranteed way than in centralized networks.

Don't trust, Verify!

right on

True 🤯 so we already have a fix for AI generated spam propaganda news.

The truthfulness of information can be judged, but freedom cannot be restrained

Don't worry, the WEF will be getting governments to implement digital ID's soon enough.

True true 💪

Post truth meaning early Twitter or just generally? I think we’ve been is a post truth world our entire lifetime. You’re truth saved my ass with “get your BTC off exchanges” and for that I’ll be forever grateful to you ODELL. I like that kind of truth.

You’re half-way there brother!

3/4 now I think.

Why? I could still put on a fake account and post bullshit.

Particularly when nostr security practices are still awful, eg how often people end up posting private keys into random websites.

What percentage of the world really cares about this?

Struggling to zap you

Facts

Not sure I agree… what does it matter who/what organization is posting said news if I don’t trust that source (and I don’t, generally)? Are you talking about the outside chance any three letter agency is posting for, say the New York Times? Because I don’t trust either and wouldn’t care if the note was signed by god, I’d have nothing to do with trusting the content. We not live in a post-trust world where the only thing that matters to you is what you are able to perceive as truth, independent of “sources”.

Truth! 🍻 Brother. Gimme a follow. @BTCSpeedboat aka BRocketMiner 🍻

Your post is creating a lot of discussion.

I am keen to see when journalists start to adopt it for hosting content they would not have gotten out on something like a twitter or substack! I mean if you're running your own ghost instance and nostr to syndicate you have a pretty strong set up to speak to truth
