Bought an android phone today to test out #GrapheneOS after the news about #[3] and #[4].

Planning on using the #[5] guide to set it up.

Prepare with wisdom, not fear.

Curious to what phone you purchased because im not sure which phone to get to make this move

I have heard good things about the Google Pixel phones.

If you are privacy focused, I recommend this podcast episode:

They discuss the trade offs and how there is always the smallest kernel of hardware that is not open source. But Samsung phones seem to have larger portions of this if that is your thing.

#[5] has a great guide on the actual process.

Also, if you go with the Pixel, I have heard the 4 isn’t able to keep up very well. Need at least a Pixel 5 or newer.

Update:

#GrapheneOS is working well.

Trying the non-Google Play Store route and testing two different setups on different users.

Biggest challenge so far has been the continued use of iPhone while learning Android. The swipe up/down differences are frustrating for muscle memory.

Haven’t tried using it as a daily driver yet. Mostly because I set it up with no SIM.

One app has presented a challenge and given me an error that a certain function could not be performed because the app was not downloaded directly from the Google Play Store. Still some troubleshooting to do.

Thx for the update. 👍

Can you tell me what the issue was with the app? Were you trying to grant an accessibility service to an app? If so and if you haven't resolved it I can help.
