This weekend I visited Graz, the capital city of Styria, one of the 9 states of Austria. We rented an apartment in a building that dates from the year 1464.

I'll add a few more pictures of the apartment as a reply to this post.

Have fun traveling Cons

Wow, Western civilization already existed back in 1464! 😯😎

It's somehow amazing that the first inhabitants of this building didn't know yet that the Americas existed.

Yes, it is amazing. The rediscovery of North America was just 28 years in the future. And the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire was just 11 years in the past.

I 🩷 Graz

Right now I think it's the most alive city in Austria. Styria had a festival in Vienna and something felt very different about these people, and now I know exactly why. I had a plan to go to Klagenfurt at the end of the month but I might return to Graz. Do you have any other recommendations for Austria as a weekend destination?

There are far too many beautiful places in Austria for me to choose just one. 😏Salzburg, for example, is wonderful for a city trip. Where I am drawn to every year is the Salzkammergut and all the lakes in this region.

With a bike, the area around Bad Aussee, Grundlsee, Wolfgangsee, Mondsee, and Attersee is a hit, and the cuisine in this region is unbeatable.

At my „Ländle" - everything is beautiful anyway.😉

This is gorgeous but it's 7 hours away. I usually avoid Salzburg because of too many tourists but I should research it a bit, 2h30m is perfect for a weekend trip.

Then Bad Ischl and renting an E-Bike (for a bigger reach) could be a good choice.

I'll look into it. Thank you! 🫂
