I'm thinking about setting up #meshtastic in my apartments, but I'm not sure how well it would work in a dense urban area. From my window, I can literally see the windows of another building with over 20 floors right next to mine.

I could mount something on the window and plug it into a wall outlet, but I haven't figured out yet which board would be best or what's the situation with antennas. I'd also like to get something portable, but so far I’ve only found a few options and still have no idea which one would be the best choice.

The T1000E is a also a very popular device for meshies. For its size it works really well.

That looks like a solid portable setup.

My goal is actually pretty simple — to stay connected in case the internet or power goes out in my apartment building. The problem is, I'm in a wheelchair, so dealing with antennas myself is difficult, especially if they need to be mounted outside. And honestly, the whole LoRa thing is still pretty confusing to me. I'll just buy a few Lilygo or Heltec boards and figure things out little by little.

I have the mesh pocket pictured on the left, and at least with a 10,000 mAh version, it has lasted at least 33 days on a single charge.

I'm actually still discharging it as of now.

Also, the mesh works pretty well in dense urban areas because there's a higher chance of actually having infrastructure available such as routers.

Not the best place for deployment. Also glass is blocking rf so hard that it makes it sometimes unusable.

Yes, it's not the best choice for a stationary node, but I also don't want to drill holes in the wall just to run a power cable. Maybe I can find someone skilled enough to build me a self-contained outdoor setup, but to be honest, I'm not sure.

Putting the radio outside with a proper antenna is a problem for me right now. There are some specialists in the city who work with TV signal antennas, maybe they could come up with something.

But at this point I'm not sure it's worth going that far just for Meshtastic. Especially since there's Reticulum.
