Some good children's book recommendations from Erik Hoel: https://www.theintrinsicperspective.com/p/books-to-stoke-the-soul-of-a-young

I would add to the list Seacrow Island and Ronja by Astrid Lindgren.

What are your favorite off-the-beaten-path books to read to your kids?

I just ordered the Chronicles of Narnia set to read to mine. Not off the beaten path but I'm old and haven't thought about them in a decades lol

My kids listen and I listen to these together whenever we are on road trips. They are so good no matter what age you are.

My kids are always bagging for new books to read. I'll try these out.

Thank you! Just ordered the Brambly Hedge series for my daughter.

She also loves all of Astrid Lindgren’s stories.

Let me know what you think of it, my hand is hovering over the buy button

The brambly hedge books are worth it for the illustrations alone. The stories are great for little ones as well.

I love Lindgren for how she packages profound life lessons in children's books. Ronja is a masterpiece so is

"The Brothers Lionheart" by Lindgren. It's one of her most profound and perhaps most philosophical children's books.

Books that appeal to both kids and adults are really rare and special. I haven't read Lionheart, I'll look it up

Be prepared - even adult readers find it deeply affecting. I still have to cry every time I read it.

It’s known for its unique approach to discussing difficult topics like illness, death, and heroism in a way that is accessible to children.
