How do you all typically count reps in alternating rep scheme workouts?

For instance, if the workout says “10 lunges, alternating sides” do you do 10 on each side or 10 total (5 on each side)?

It doesn’t seem like there is a consistent answer on the internet.

One leg, one rep. For example, 10 alternating pistols will be five with each leg.

This is how I usually log / interpret it too. Unless it’s something complex like Bear Complex.
