Yes in Elon's desperate attempt to squeeze users for revenue he's going to inadvertently cut the user base by half or more because so many are not going to start paying for something that they've been using for free for years.
He heard we needed more users over here and was feeling benevolent 😂
Seems to be the rumor, but I don't think they have fully committed yet, they are kinda floating the idea. The way most sites are going, I think they might actually do it.

This was always the plan. Even if not immediately, this would happen eventually and nobody can do anything about it.

That's true, but the big difference is on nostr I don't have to KYC to pay for a relay. It's the KYC that's the threat to free speech, not that it would cost a bit.

No, Elon entertained the idea in a talk saying it would be necessary to get rid of all bots. But it was not something he said he was going to implement.
