Why JS free and how would one deal with websockets in that case?
Discussion
Users generally need devs to stop sabotaging them, and in nostr's case, it's supposed to be for censorship resistance, so there's an especially strong need for devs to stop sabotaging user security and privacy.
One would either deal with websockets in the backend or not at all (at the same time forming the superior future branch of the nostr protocol with zero direct involvement of javascript)
