We were lucky to get out spending less than $16k. Lots of digging and doing things ourselves, but it was so worth it.

We left our home state to travel 5 hours driving and host the wedding there. Limits the total number of guests that will come and the area was cheaper. Cheaper but much more beautiful 😊

But it's all getting more and more complicated, just to not drop a fortune. Wonder how many couples start out in debt from the wedding.
I know we did to some extent. All paid off now, but if the parents aren’t wealthy, probably almost all of them.
Spending on the wedding is mostly dependent on how much you feel you have to impress the guests.
For example, if you are in a doctor/politician friend circle, the expectations are much higher.
That explains NJ and DC.
We were lucky to marry in Bavaria, where the guests give such generous cash presents, that you often end up making a profit.
