Tomorrow is the last day of my one month long TIDAL trial. The music quality is great. The recommendations are great. However, I need a little more from my music provider.

I use Google Home devices to listen to my music, a lot. Home isn't support naively. You have to Cast your music. That was fine 7 years ago. I need my native support now. Android Auto works fairly well, though the TIDAL Android Auto app could use a few more features, such as being able to like songs. I couldn't figure out how to do that. I don't think you can?

If I had better headphones or desktop speakers and if I only listened to music as my desk, then TIDAL would be for me.

Vinyl. Sovereign music FTW

I haven't owned a vinyl record since the 80's.

that said, i know people still swear by vinyl.

Ive got like 20 somethings crates of vinyl

Still the best

Yes, and so much of the industry has switched on to AAA now so there are some truly beautiful pressings coming through. Blue Note’s Tone Poets. I inherited my Grandfather’s collection and it’s really very emotional sometimes for me to throw on some Sinatra which sounds crisp and think that he would have listened to the same exact crackles 40 years ago. Like a hand reaching out from the past

powerful af

The reason to stay with Tidal is for hopefully lightning or Nostr integration maybe via #Cashapp. #[2]

Nostr and Lightning integration are cool and all, but there's 3 other people in my house that listen to music on the daily.

Fair enough, I have Tidal for me and Spotify for me and my daughter. I am just hopeful Jack has some sway with Tidal to allow us to pay artists directly with Lightning payments

Also, you probably know this, but for others... Nostrgram has filters to allow you to see only notes with Songs on them (Tidal, Apple, Spotify, etc)

Can't you use routines to play tidal on your home devices?

you wouldn't be able to since there's only cast support and not native support.

Same issue for me but I still keep it cause it’s compatible with my DJ software which is worth the price to me. Think it still needs a lot of work to get caught up to speed w Spotify.

I've never used Spotify. I've always used Google Music / Google Play Music / YouTube Music. Scatterbrained Google. Ugh.

Spotify is great. They have an incredible amount of curated playlists for genres & subgenres and their reccs are comparable to tidal (maybe even better) IMO. Makes music discovery super easy. I’ve never tried any of the google owned music services though so I can’t compare Spotify to them.

I’m going to give TIDAL a try. Thanks for the mini-review.

Native support with Sonos.

My main beef with tidal is I could not find a good handful of smaller artists I like.

Everything else though was good. It was nice to flex my speakers a bit. I have a little under 2 weeks left on my trial.

what speakers do you have?

I had a Pelosi but now it’s a McCarthy. Always looking for an upgrade

A pair of Focal Shape65's for the studio. and my old KRK setup for the living room. KRK's are basically potatoes compared to the Focals but you can still hear the difference.

My main beef with Tidal is that establishment musicians founded it to do categorically nothing to further music distribution. They simply tried shifting a few percentages in order to enrich one generic greedy group over another, for which I have no sympathy.

Entirely Fair beef.

As an artiest who has gotten the shit end of a deal more than once its depressing just how shit these platforms are for the small guys.

Playing an instrument I had my own brushes with music distribution, and Tidal, for all their marketing theatrics, and compared with the product, it just feels insulting.

Others at least never claimed to save the art form. Or, in case I missed it, I have no love lost there either.

I have similar reasoning but with Apple Music. That being said, assistant providers really need to open up their ecosystems.

I have a JBL charge 4 and its decent, just a portable speaker. I connected the Bluetooth of it to my google home so it auto plays from there. Same between my headphones.

It’s just frustrating it’s not one of the partnered music providers yet and it’s not the same.

same for me

Get yourself a Bose SoundLink Flex, they are not that expensive and the sound quality is amazing

You should consider degoogling yourself

I've been looking for a decentralized alternative to Google Home if anyone has some suggestions.
