Are they though? I’ve never really met a Christian nationalist, have you? Not saying they don’t exist but I just feel like they’re kind of rare.

Thanks for weighing in. Actually, I know quite a few personally, and even far more (A majority? Many/most reading this?) who, through bad translations of Scripture, have been deceived into what is, effectively, state worship.
Jesus actually came to declare and establish a completely alternate form of government, his ecclesia (local assemblies).
Jesus told his closest followers that the rulers of the nations "lord it over" their fellow man, "exercising power" to control them. Then he very clearly told his followers "That is NOT the way." (Matthew 20, Luke 22).
